Microsoft and IAV have announced a partnership that will see the creation of automated cars being powered by Windows 10, along with Microsoft Azure.
IAV will be using the Windows 10 Continuum feature to constantly stream Windows 10 to the car’s dashboard.
Through this stream, drivers will be able to take advantage of a range of Windows 10 apps, such as Cortana, Skype for Business, Outlook, Groove Music and so on, while the car is driving itself or while it is in park. The integration will also allow drivers to use the Windows 10 devices that they already own.
A number of car companies also announced their partnerships with Microsoft at CES this year. While Toyota, Ford, Delphi and a few other companies had already announced partnerships, Volvo, Nissan and Harman have now joined the group. We will likely see cars from these companies making use of Windows 10 in the near future. While Android Auto and Apple’s CarPlay are currently the big names in car infotainment systems, that could certainly change.
