Google announced Science Journal, a new Android app for budding scientists in a blog post on Google for Education. Aiming to “bring out that inner scientist in all of us”, the new app will use the existing sensors in your phone or Arduino-powered add-ons to record data.

By drawing on things like your phone’s light sensor, microphone or accelerometer, Science Journal not only records findings, but helps with prediction models on future tests.

The tech giant also partnered up with California-based, “public learning laboratory” Exploratorium to design kits to accompany the new app. These kits include things like inexpensive sensors and microcontrollers, and some can even be built with regular craft materials.
