Essential’s much promised Audio Adapter HD for its smartphone is finally available to buy right now, both in the US and Canada.
The adapter snaps onto the Essential Phone’s magnetic accessory port on the back, and it brings a high-res headphone jack to the party. It includes “award-winning MQA technology, revealing the full sound of the original master recording”, Essential says.
Like the Essential Phone’s frame, the adapter is made from machined titanium. The accessory sports a high-resolution ESS Sabre DAC and an audiophile-grade amp that can power high impedance headphones with low distortion.
All of this will cost you dearly. The Audio Adapter HD is priced at an eye watering $149 – this is definitely not your average $9-$20 dongle, that’s for sure.
To take some of the sting off, Essential is giving you three free months of Tidal, as long as you subscribe to the HiFi music service.
