GTX 970

PC gamers has revealed in the latest hardware and software survey of Steam that their new favorite graphics card to date is Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 970.

The survey was concluded in December 2015 and showed how the 970 version reached the top spot for the first time, knocking off the HD Graphics 4000 of Intel down one spot.

It also showed that the GTX 970 model is now found in 4.89 percent of Steam’s machines, which is a significant increase from the 4.75 percent that it earned in November of the same year.

According to the survey, most integrated graphics cards suffered from a decline in the past four months. PC owners now seem to gear more towards dedicated cards as opposed to iGPUs.

“The GeForce GTX 970 is a high-performance graphics card designed for serious gaming,” said GeForce. “Powered by new Nvidia Maxwell architecture, it features advanced technologies and class-leading graphics for incredible gaming experiences.”

The 970 is joined by four other variants in the GeForce GTX series in the top 10 of the survey. These include the GTX 760 (rank 3), GTX 750 Ti (rank 4), GTX 960 (rank 5) and GTX 660 (rank 8). Another popular model is the GeForce GT 620M, which landed on the seventh spot.

Three models from Intel also made it to the top 10. These include the HD Graphics 4000 (rank 2), the HD Graphics 4400 (rank 6) and the ValleyView2 HD Graphics (rank 10).

The AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series earned the ninth spot at 2.05 percent.

Some of the GeForce GTX 970’s notable specs include 1,664 CUDA Cores, 1,050 MHz Base Clock, 1,178 MHz Boost Clock, 109 GigaTexels per second of Texture Fill Rate, 224 GB per second of memory bandwidth, and 4 GB of standard memory configuration.

In the meantime, it was only the GTX 980 among the top-end models of Nvidia that made it to the chart. On the whole, Nvidia covers 54.61 percent of the total GPUs in the survey result. AMD earned an overall percentage of 26.33 while Intel based GPUs covered an overall score of 18.66 percent.

The popularity of the GeForce GTX 970 obviously has overshadowed the controversy it was involved with early last year about its 3.5 GB memory size capacity. It is after all the highly recommended model for the much anticipatedOculus Rift.
