LG G5 Render

With only a few weeks until Mobile World Congress begins on Feb. 22, next-generation flagship smartphones are leaking on an almost daily basis.

The latest is LG’s upcoming G5, and a new report claims the handset will feature a unique and first-of-its-kind modular design.

In late December 2015, we reported on some of the key specs sources claimed were headed to the LG G5, which were said to include a 5.3-inch quad-HD display, secondary display like the LG V10, powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, “Magic Slot” and almost extinct removable battery.

A new report from CNET Korea reveals some new details about the LG G5. According to its source, the LG G5 will feature a premium metal design. Don’t worry, that is not going to result in a non-removable battery due to a sealed metal case like Apple’s iPhones and Samsung’s Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, Note 5, and S6 Edge+. Instead, the report notes that LG has come up with a first-of-its-kind modular design that will use a “drawer method” that will allow users to slide out the bottom of the smartphone’s case to easily replace the battery, as seen in the image above.

CES 2016 just recently wrapped up, and tech experts and enthusiasts are now focusing their attention on another major tradeshow known to be the launching ground for several top-tier smartphones from some of the biggest companies in the arena.

Samsung used last year’s event to debut its current Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, which introduced a new premium glass and metal design philosophy. Samsung’s work paid off, and the Galaxy S6 Edge stole the show and was awarded the prestigious “Best New Handset, Tablet or Device” award.

Samsung has scheduled an Unpacked event for Feb. 21, where it will launch its new 2016 flagship Galaxy S7, S7 Edge and, possibly, the Galaxy S7 Plus and S7 Edge Plus. If a new report is to be believed, LG is going to attempt to steal the show with its very unique LG G5, which is said to have a first-of-its-kind modular design.

More information will likely pop up prior to the MWC 2016. As always, it’s best to take these reports with a huge grain of salt. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on any new LG G5 developments.
