HIGHLIGHTS

  • Nokia 7 went on first flash sale in China on Tuesday
  • The flash sale was conducted on two Chinese e-commerce sites
  • The new Nokia smartphone garnered over 150,000 registrations

Is Nokia back in action? It appears so, with the growing success of the brand backed by licensee HMD Global that has just completed the first flash sale in China of its newest smartphone, the Nokia 7, within minutes. The smartphone received over 150,000 registrations for the sale that took place on domestic e-commerce sites JD.com and Suning on Tuesday.

Pre-registrations for the Nokia 7 were started following its official launch in the Chinese market on October 20. As NokiaPowerUser reported, more than 120,000 customers reached JD to participate in the first flash sale, while Suning received over 30,000 registrations. In a separate report, NPU adds that sale on Tuesday ended within minutes, with the smartphone going out of stock on both JD.com and Suning. The total number of units sold in the initial flash sale round [remain undisclosed, though.

The Nokia 7 sits between the mid-range Nokia 6 and the flagship Nokia 8. The smartphone comes in two variants: the 4GB RAM model comes at CNY 2,499 (approximately Rs. 25,000), and the 6GB RAM model is available for CNY 2,699 (roughly Rs. 26,500).

HMD Global has provided a 5.2-inch IPS display on the Nokia 7 with a 1080×1920 pixels resolution and 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Under the hood, the smartphone has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 SoC clocked at up to 1.8GHz. There is 64GB onboard storage that can be expanded via microSD card (up to 128GB).

Similar to the Nokia 8, the Nokia 7 has a Dual-Sight mode that simultaneously captures shots from the front and rear camera sensors. The smartphone has a 16-megapixel rear camera sensor with f/1.8 aperture lens and a 5-megapixel front camera sensor. There is also 4K video support with Nokia OZO spatial audio technology. Besides, the handset packs a 3000mAh battery and runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

The Nokia 7 is so far only available in China. However, HMD Global is also set to expand the Nokia lineup in India by launching a new handset in New Delhi on October 31. There are speculations that the new launch could either be the Nokia 7 or an ultra-affordable Nokia 2.
