In light of Mad Catz’s financial woes, Rock Band 4 developer Harmonix has announced a new publishing deal with Performance Designed Products (PDP), all the while teasing that a “major feature update” will release for the musical sequel in late 2016.
Word of Harmonix partnering with PDP comes only a month after Mad Catz confirmed extensive layoffs in the wake of lowly hardware sales. It’s unclear exactly if PDP will outright replace Mad Catz as the primary developer and distributor. The official statement from Harmonix CEO Steve Janiak, meanwhile, focuses on plans for Rock Band‘s future.
“As we look to fully achieve our goal of creating this console generation’s category-defining music gaming platform, we need to partner with a truly world-class manufacturer that can operate at the scale that Rock Band requires.
“PDP has a well-deserved reputation for innovation, customer satisfaction, and quality. They have the logistical and technical expertise to support Harmonix’s ambitious plans for the future of Rock Band, with new hardware alongside a major Rock Band 4 feature update coming this fall.”
As for Rock Band 4‘s March DLC, Harmonix recently introduced fans to new music from 5 Seconds of Summer, Carrie Underwood, The Cranberries, Fall Out Boy, Luke Bryan, Neon Trees, One Direction and more.
